I want to learn computer code and design video games, But where do i start?
I’m 17, Homeschooled, And i want to start learning (Or training) with computer code before the times comes that i have to enter college.
For my job, I have always wanted it to be something involving computers, But it would make me feel better if i started preparing myself for it now then in the future. I always want to try my hand at designing video games as well.
I have no clue where to start though, So i was wondering if anybody knew any good books/websites/purchasable training software from an electronic store/etc that have been working well for other computer users.
Thanks in advance

I gained a lot of my coding skills using Blitz Basic. I find the Blitz Basic variants highly beginner friendly. http://blitzbasic.org/
And most important advice, start small. It’s easy to set up a 3D environment, but making it into a game takes an indescribable amount of work. It’s very common for beginners to bite more than they can chew.
Go to College.
Namely this is not something you can just pick up and learn. I’d start off learning C++, which is the essential for Direct X or any game shell design programming language which you’d use if you were to design video games ( namely coding for them atleast.. ). This takes an average of 2 years to learn enough to, and 5+ to master. As you can see it is not easy.
I’d recommend online tutorials with C++ and starting out with your own programs, then moving possibly on to collage / some course you can take to learn it further, especially if there is a game design course you can take locally. This is the best hope to get into a career such as game design, unless a firm is large enough to only want a ‘designer’ and not a programmer, but that won’t happen to many people..
if your in the US then check out Full Sail, Devry, and International Academy of Design and Technology
Learn the basic computer programs first. Buy some books about C++, Basic, Cobalt, maybe some Java. Study them and find free compilers on the internet. Once you have a few languages, you can go to college and do well with your classes.
I suggest having a grasp and ability to program in at least one language before committing to it for college. I used to be a computer engineering major, but the coding was terrible for me. 95% of the time I was fixing errors in my code.
I have a friend who programs for XBOX games. He has his name published on one game. He didn’t go to college, but he did spend a lot of time programming. Like I said, you have to be seriously dedicated to programming if you want to make a game, and try to be innovative too. Best of luck to you!
