If you just want an average computer or buy really cheap parts then you may as well not bother as the major computer assemblers can buy better parts for cheaper than you can. An "off the shelf" computer with a good motherboard, a fast processor and room fo expansion can always be upgraded later with better parts, without breaking your wallet when you first get it. They are like cars, the sum of the parts is more than buying the finished products, but you do get exactly what you want as well as the satisfaction of learning a whole bunch about computers.
