SEO is the active practice of optimizing a web site by improving internal and external aspects in order to increase the traffic the site receives from search engines.

Keyword search
Keyword research enables site owners to choose keywords when constructing and optimizing a website (page). Keyword research is also extensively used to manage PPC advertising campaigns or if you are looking to research and identify profitable niche markets.
When performing keyword research for constructing and optimizing a website (page) you are looking to select search terms that will reach your target audience. One of the common mistakes made by some SEOs is to avoid choosing keywords that are very competitive. Searchers tend to use a lot modifiers when they search and the more competitive the search term the more likely they are to use a modifier. Removing the possibility of ranking well for these modified searches is not a good idea. Competition can be a factor in deciding how to target a specific search term but you should never ignore a search term simply because you believe it is too competitive. http://www.seo-blog.com/tutorial.php

I don’t recommend any books on SEO — by the time these books are published, the search engines have already changed their algorithms making half of the book’s content to be obsolete.
You are better off going to search engine focused forums, blogs of search engine insiders and even the search engine releases.
If you are going to read only one piece on search engine optimization, I suggest you read Brett Tabke of WebmasterWorld.com’s "Successful Site in 12 Months with Google Alone: 26 steps to 15k a day." http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum3/2010.htm
WebmasterWorld.com http://www.webmasterworld.com has different sections that cover various aspects of search engine optimization, and each section is participated in by respected webmasters and even search engine employees (e.g. there’s a GoogleGuy that responds to Google topics)

There are many books or e-books on search engine optimization… some good, and some not so good. Many will discuss with such things as content, duplicate content, links, page ranking, etc…
Much of what is being passed around basically pertains to google search engine optimization since it’s the most popular and biggest of the big three search engines. But, on the other hand, much that is being passed around are really myths that some online gurus started in order to sell or promote their latest e-book or software.
My suggestion to you is to first blow away the myths, then focus on the facts and what has and will always continue to work in the long haul.
You can go to makemoneyconcepts.com/googleseomyths to get a good start on clearing up the many myths about search engine optimization.
Hey, it won’t cost you nothing and it’ll save you a lot of time and money when you know the truth.
