Questions on building a website for the first time?
I’m going to be building a website for the first time and I don’t know which program to use or how to really do this. Here are some questions that I need answered and I’m hoping some one on here can help me!
I’m creating a home schooled website. Primary subjects will be vocabulary and the correct definitions. Then History and Science! As well as projects they can order from us or make on their own. With this being said how do I……?

1. Set the website up so you have to be a member in order to view 90% of the information. Thus needing to set it up so that some can be viewed as a non member.
2. To accept payments? Not sure how to do this or what forms of payments to accept? Most cost effective way is the best.
3. Best methods / programs to use for advertising.
4. The ability to set up games or on line test.
5. We want to be able to add video for "class" projects.

I will start off by saying that without experience, it is going to take quite some time to achieve most of this. Some of it you may get by with, but especially if you are doing e-commerce (accepting payments) you also need an experienced developer that has a focus on security.
Unfortunately, the amount of interactivity you are asking for would probably mean it’s a significantly large contract.
However, to answer your questions:
1. You will need some sort of account management. That can be as simple as a "htaccess/htpasswd" system, which would require a lot of manual work to manage, or building a relatively simple database with users. If you want to restrict which users can see which content, it gets quite a bit more complicated in either case.
2. PayPal is probably the simplest choice. It sounds like you have a small group of trusted people, so you don’t need to worry about integrating payments into your site, but you do need to write the code to manage accounts and who has paid what.
3. I am not clear if you are trying to advertise your site to others, or put ads on your site. I used Google AdSense to advertise, you can also use Yahoo!s ads system, though you would have to search for it. By the time you accomplish #1 and #2, you should have a better understanding of what you need here.
4. Basically the same as #1. You need to define exactly how you want your games built, what data you are going to store in the database, how all the UI elements are going to work. How you create a game/test/etc.
5. I would recommend YouTube or Vimeo for hosting video. You can then link to your site. If you need that to also be protected content, you will need to look at solutions like Adobe Flash Media Server.

This is your first time making your own website then you should do one of two things. Learn php,html and javascript first. And i would use a php program. You should just hire someone to do it, ill do it.
I am professional developer and doing web development from the last 4 years and i am . net developer i do work on other languages as well but i will suggest you to go for .net platform its easy to use.
Ans # 1 . In visual studio we can create mutiple views like for admin, for paid customers for non paid customers etc and then we can show them whatever we want to show in other words we can restrict users.
Ans # 2 I personally use 2checkout.com for processing payment on my web it accepts all famous credit cards and paypal.
Ans # 3 . google adsense, affiliate
Ans # 4 . yes its possible for this you will first develop games or lesson seperately then you will integrate these with your web now how to do this its a long process…
Ans # 5 . In visual studio its available as drag and drop function.
