search engine optimization help?
A friend of mine has a website, but it’s not getting any hits. I know a little bit about computers and the internet so he’s asked me to find out why. What do I need to do to get his web page so that they show up in search engine results? http://www.obrienscape.com/ is the website…there is a page counter at the bottom, but that’s mostly traffic from us looking at the site. Where do I start and are there any good online resources to help me?
Thank you for all the information. I need some help with some terminology you guys are using.
-xml site map
-hyperlinks with your keywords as anchor text
-backlinks

There are many ways to generate traffic to your site.. Refer the below websited for generating free targetted traffic to the website… It has loads of tips that might help

If you add a smarter tracker like google analytics or the easy to use statcounter, you can examine the visitor IP addresses, locations, and may be able to block your own ip from being recorded.
Search engines get confused by frames like the site is using, the different menu choices all share the same address in the nav bar, making it impossible for the search engines to index individual page addresses. I would dump the frame navigation. Before tackling more SEO to improve the traffic.
Yahoo site explorer reports no external links to the site. I see google has indexed some pages, and lots of unproductive image links. Submitting an xml site map to the search engines might help.
It would improve search ranking to add informative ‘how to’ articles, providing more search phrase matches, as well as giving legit visitors more reasons to go there. The links to other services is useful but may not necessarily improve the search ranking, people talk about loosing "link juice" if you have more outgoing than incoming, though linking to highly ranked authority sites like contractor association, or government sites might help. Outgoing links hurt less if they have the noFollow flag added.
Ultimately the number and quality of links in to your site is the biggest factor used by search engines to rank your site. You can research the method to secure backlinks or pay for some assistance.
Paid search results ads, like google adwords can be geo targeted to only be shown to local viewers, making them more cost effective.

As far as SEO is concerned, the matter on inbound links, especially hyperlinks with your keywords as anchor text, is paramount. But SEO work will take some time. I like your site, more so because it is about a real service that people need. I think you should try looking for the people in your niche. Where would they be? Most likely, in landscaping forums. I think you should go join some and use your website URL in your forum signature. All the best!
SEO is a broad concept and changes continously. I can’t provide all SEO related tips on a single answer here, however I am going to share my findings after a quick analysis of your (your friends website)…
First; Avoid using frames & iframes on your pages…
Second; Almost all the content is presented using images instead of texts, search engines won’t (although it is technologically possible wouldn’t be feasible), therefore do not use images as your main content!
A quick summary of key SEO terms are;
- Keyword density in your page (Keywords that search engines can read!!)
- Keyword existence in URL’s and URL Structure
- Header Tags, Anchor text, inpage links, backlinks, image alt tags
- Original & Fresh content
- Domain Age
blah blah blah…
And many more… These are just a few topics that should be investigated in detail…
You can PM me if you need more detail…
