I have three websites right now and have tried some of the common marketing ideas to promote them. However, I may or may not be doing so properly because it seems that there is so little information out there geared toward complete novices. And, it seems that everyone has a different view of what works and what doesn’t.

I’ve tired (and as I said with limited knowledge of the accuracy of what I am doing):

Article marketing (provided by a service) – saw no major results if any at all.
Social networking – I do this myself with minimal if any results.
PPC campaigns through Google and Facebook – neither seem to produce any tangible results.
Link building – Some help in creating traffic, virtually zero help in producing customers.
Directory submissions – Very little impact.
Search engine submissions – Very little impact.

I cannot get any sort of grip on how to determine good keywords. All I find is vague information. Same thing when it comes to dealing with site maps and meta tags and titles.

Just assume I’ve come from some third-world country and have never had any concept of the Internet other than e-mail and browsing and that’s pretty much the point at which I need to be related to.

Can anybody actually tell me where or how I can find some beneficial info?

By the way, the websites are:

www.3riverscreative.com
www.twistedangels.net
www.jasongreiner.com
Thanks for the effort guys. While I don’t think very much of this will be particularly helpful for somebody in my situation, I do thank you for trying.

Or at least near the top. I have read some great articles about search engine optimization but Ive received mixed information. Im sure each search engine is different, so lets use YAHOO.

Ive read that meta tags (keywords) aren’t looked at anymore. Other places Ive read that having a certain keyword density will push you towards the top.
I understand it would vary based on keywords you use also (like certain keywords are more popular than others, making it more difficult to compete with other sites that use those same keywords).
I also am aware that there are people out there who you can pay to do this seach engine optimization for you, but I really want to do it myself (because this is a service I would like to offer others in the future).

(note: I havent "turned my site in to yahoo’s search engine" yet. I am just trying to work this out before I do)

So what does it take to get towards the top in YAHOO’s search? Is it the meta tags? The keyword density? Something else?
Oh yeah, I’ve also read that it takes like 6 months (once you’ve submitted your site to a search engine) to show up in search results. How much truth is there to that? (Probably varies by search engine, but as much info as possible would be helpful). Thank you!

Any books, good up to date websites, or classes? I’ve got a business and need it to come up in the search engines better. I have meta tags, but don’t know much html.

How do I know what Yahoo and Goggle are looking for. The tech pages they have are over my head.

Are 3rd party companies worth the money to have them do this for me?

Okay I think I finally have it down and just want to see if everyone out there agrees or not.

1) Find your niche
2) Create a list of keywords that people might use to find your site.
3) Research the list of possibilities and narrow down the list to use one or two keyword phrases that:

* Have Low Competition Rate
* How a decent Adsense Payout

4) Create a list of secondary keywords that are relevant to the site.

5) On front page use the "core" keyword in title tags, Meta tags, and sprinkle here and there within the body of the page.

6) Use the secondary set of relevant keywords to create post/pages but use the core keyword phrase in post/page title in variations like;

If my core keywords were "make money"

Use "make money online" for one post and then another be "make money with ebay"

7) Link each page to one another so that the spiders can crawl each page.

8) Have competition….(buddies) in my field setup one way anchor text links pointing to the post / page that has that anchor text within the title?

9) Wait until my search traffic has converted over to mainly organic traffic from search engines to avoid being smart priced.

Does this sound about right or am I missing something, or am I shooting straight?

Thanks for any advise…I’m getting ready to launch my site but before i start shooting into the dark I want to be sure I’m at least firing into the right direction. =)

Search engine optimization is needed by every website. There are two kinds of SEO: On Page SEO and Off Page SEO. A website necessitates the two methods to improve search engine ranking.

On Page SEO

1. Meta Tags. When it comes to SEO, title and meta description tags are vital. Make short but evocative title tag with keywords in it. In creating the meta description tag, prevent from inserting too much keywords.

2. Keywords. You can start optimizing your website from the most competitive keywords up to the long tail keywords.

3. Content. Know that Google as the most popular search engine loves fresh and unique content. Thus, write quality site contents. Always keep in mind to mention your keywords!

4. Page Size. Five to fifteen kilobytes page size is enough to let the bots crawl the whole page easily.

5. Frame. Don’t use frames because it’s a hindrance in the crawling of the search engine bots to your website. The tendency is, the other links are not crawled, making them useless.

6. Alt Tag. Alt tag is often disregarded by many. Since search engine bots cannot read images, use alt tag for your keywords.

7. H1 Tag. Utilize h1 tag for improved optimization since some search engine find this tag essential.

8. Internal Links. To better improve your website and other web pages, create links within your site going to the other relevant pages.

9. Cross Browser Compatibility. You must test your website with the popular web browsers (Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Opera, Apple Safari and Internet Explorer) to be able to know if you need to debug and fix your program codes.

10. 301 Redirection. You can use this to know if your website loads with “www” or not and if this leaks the PageRank of your website.

Off Page SEO

1. Directory Submission. Websites can be submitted to popular and free directories.

2. Article Submission. EzineArticles and Buzzle are two of the most popular article submission sites so make sure to submit yours. This is one of the best ways to get organic links.

3. Blogs. Create blogs to improve your website’s online presence and increase link popularity.

4. Blog Comments. Post comments to blogs that are do follow with your URL and keyword as the name.

5. RSS Feeds. You can submit your RSS feeds to be able to post articles automatically. The workloads are dwindled.

6. Link Exchange. You can ask fellow bloggers and webmasters to exchange links with you. But don’t overdo it. In some situations, Google tags this event as link farm which is unethical in the world of SEO.

7. Backlinks, Backlinks and More Backlinks. Ensure the backlinks are created on do follow sites. Even with backlinks, do not forget that quality is always better than quantity.

8. Press Releases. It is one of the efficient ways to improve search engine ranking.

I understand that pages’ rankings can be heavily influenced by appearing or being linked to from more respected / large / proper web sites.

Say for each time the string ‘http // www. wherever . com / a file.html" appears in the source, we will call it an instance.

Would the crawler consider any or all of the following as ‘instances’, in the source and if so, which one(s)..

Example 1 ( a direct, visible link ) .
<a href = " http : // www. thesite . com / a file. html " > regular link < / a >

example 2 (simply displayed as just text, no link.)
" i found this page it’s at http : // www. the site . com / a file. html "

example 3 (the one I’m most curious about, a link commented out)

< ! — analytics / hitbox / whatever else code and meta tags
< a href = " www. thesite. com / a page. html " >& nbsp ; < /a>
– >

Any help or educated guesses are appreciated.

Just an update…

Basically, would examples 2 and 3 have the same weight as example 1…

thanks.

I was wondering if someone who is well versed in SEO can take a look at my website and offer suggestions on the Meta Tags and just overall SEO. The website is www.wall2wallcleaningservice.com. Also, what is the fastest and easiest way to get indexed by google? How long does it usually take? I’m not indexed yet. It’s been about 1 week since the site has been up.

I need help with SEO, I’ve added advanced Meta Tags, post my link all over, have a bot.txt. and still im on page 3 of google! WHY?

If I have, say, for example, a web design / graphic design company, does it help if I have words related to the company in the URL…

smart-webdesign.com

as opposed to

smart.com…???

OR is it just about smart meta tags, keywords, title tags etc…??

Your thoughts would be apreciated.

How can I keep my blogs page rankings from falling? sidenote: I use Google Adsense. Thank you in advance.
Here are my metatags for my website:

BTW, they’re over a year old, I do have PageRank, and I have done good SEO for the past long while. I ping at pingoat, I’m in Technorati, I’ve been very careful with duplicate content, especially when doing article marketing (only at the best article directories), have created sitemaps and uploaded to Google Webmaster (which show as successfully indexed), and I have shown up in Digg and other good places. So why no SERPs in Google? I’m targeting long-tail keywords too! Not as much competition! I heard that sometimes Blogger points the Meta tags to nofollow & noindex; is that true? I can’t see much in those weird templates…. What’s up?

Using webmaster tools with no success. I need professional advice about getting my site in the top search list of Google. I created my meta tags with search criteria and added my site to Google. I have done this several times changing the tags etc but still can not find my site searching the criteria in Google.

Below are the metal tags used:

<meta content=’Sony Playstation 3, Make money online,Make Money With Adsense, Make Money, Profit, Commissions,Google AdSense, make money with Google,Firefox, domains.’ http-equiv=’Keywords’ name=’Keywords’/>

i need help getting my website on the first page of google
i have added meta tags
please give me some good EFFECTIVE tips
thanks in advance!

btw its an aviation website

what are the uses of meta tags?
what is the use of keywords?

I’m creating a Web Site and have been researching ways to improve traffic. I already know what key words will work well. (I’m kind of new at this, but I am learning.)

My question: Where’s the best place to put them? Should they be in the title? Should they be in the meta tags? Should they be in the document text? How about the underlined links?

Also, should I repeat the keywords many times or won’t that get me any more hits.

Thanks in advance for any and all responses. I do check back and give thumbs up for answers and choose the best one. :-)
