WAMU Online promotion?
I was just checking out the Wamu bank website and they appear to have a promotion if you open a checking account along with a savings acct. online, you get 4.75% APY with the savings. I’m guessing it’s alot like ING direct (online only). Does or has anyone opened these accounts and are you happy with it?

You are exactly right, I used to work for WaMu and they are offering this account to compete with ING and such. It is an online ONLY account. You do have to keep the checking account open to receive that interest rate on the savings account, so if you don’t already have a checking with WaMu you will have to open one and keep it open. I have account myself and have had NO problems, I live in an out of market area, so I don’t have to go into a branch or anything anyway. The checking account is supposed to be able to maintained in the branch, order checks debit cards ect… but I have delt with many angry customers because they have gone into the branch for help with the checking and because it was opened online they didn’t get the help they wanted and ended up having to call customer service, and then sometimes it wasn’t something customer service could help them with. So the customer felt they were not getting the help they wanted. I also noticed that these customers were ones who just wanted the higher interest rate and didn’t read the fine print and didn’t realize that they could do stuff online or just didn’t want to. I myself pay all my bills online and do all my banking online, both banks I actually use I am out of market, the only problem with that is ATMs, however with WaMu’s free checking there are no ATM fees from WAMu and it is hard to find a bank that doesn’t charge non-customers a fee.
Working with computers a lot I found the application process very easy and fast.
