What do you think about legitimate email marketing?
I’m not talking about spam (e.g. nigerian scams, or fake viagra emails). I’m talking about emails from companies you buy stuff from or maybe an email from some site you filled out a survey for that sends you a legitimate message.

i think it’s effective provided that the company sending the email is cautious in how they use this approach…some important things to remember:
- the email has to be relevant to the targeted user
- try to gain ‘permission’ from the user to continue marketing to them (i.e. registered website login, filling out survey)
- make it worthwhile (i.e. promotional offers)
- do not continue to market to the user if they request to be removed from your list
this is a great appoach if it is not abused!
email campaigns, they can work but they have to be well done, and very good at targeting the audience. The idea is that if they send you one every month or so you’ll come back and see what has changed, some people it is good for, others don’t have the time.
