i want to build my own business web site. what is the best software available?

Adobe PageMaker & Macromedia Dreamweaver CS3
Look into a content management software such as Joomla! It offers many many plugins that are very simple to manage and perfect for all kinds of websites. It also isn’t complicated like dreamweaver, and unlike dreamweaver, Joomla! comes with fully loaded with features and doesnt require you to know html.
There are also many free templates you can use, as well as commercial ones to give your website a nice professional look.

Try to use Drupal. It’s an open source content management platform.

Macromedia Dreamweaver
I like Macromedia Dreamweaver if your going to have to buy one.. Its capable of doing just about anything for expansion purposes you need in the future.. If I already had microsoft front page as a part of office and didnt want to spend money, I would get started with that…. Regardless buy a tutorial for whatever you select.. Go to ebay and search for dreamweaver or front page tutorial etc.. theres good ones under 20.00..
